Audit Director — External Audit

The firm

National Audits Group is an independent, audit-focused firm of around 50 professionals working across metropolitan and regional Australia. Audit and assurance is all it does — there is no tax or advisory arm competing for attention, and no independence conflict to work around. Clients span corporates, not-for-profits, AFSL holders, registered clubs, SMSFs and government entities, referred in large part by accounting firms that need a conflict-free auditor.

The Sydney CBD practice is the group's largest audit portfolio. This appointment leads it.

The role

You take responsibility for a Sydney external audit portfolio of approximately $3.0 million in fees, acting as Registered Company Auditor and signing authority on statutory audits. It is a genuine leadership seat — strategy, quality and team development sit with you — but deliberately without the equity contribution or board commitments that usually come attached at this level.

• Act as Registered Company Auditor and signing authority on statutory audits
• Lead and mentor the Sydney audit team of managers, seniors and auditors
• Own senior client relationships and the quality of what is delivered to them
• Be the escalation point on complex audit, accounting and regulatory matters
• Drive audit quality, workflow efficiency and professional standards across the practice
• Contribute to firm strategy, business development and technology-enabled delivery

What the firm is looking for

• Current ASIC Registered Company Auditor registration — this one is non-negotiable
• CA or CPA qualified
• Australian audit experience carrying senior signing responsibility
• Portfolio management experience, ideally $1m+ in fees
• Deep technical command of the Australian Accounting and Auditing Standards
• A proven record of leading, mentoring and developing an audit team
• The communication judgement to hold senior client and stakeholder relationships

Also useful

• Corporate, not-for-profit and AFSL audit exposure
• Working knowledge of Caseware and FYI
• Experience with multi-office or offshore delivery models
• A real interest in technology-enabled audit, including where AI is heading
