Creative Industries

Creative Industries mandates.

Accounting for the screen and creative sector is a genuine specialisation, and Count Out Loud has built its practice entirely around it. The mandates here are for accountants who want to work with production companies, content creators and founders whose numbers are project-based, lumpy and rarely fit a standard chart of accounts. Familiarity with the Producer Offset, Screen Australia funding, and the rhythm of production financing is prized, though for the right person with strong fundamentals, several of these roles will teach it.

The roles span the full ladder: intermediate accountants learning the craft under close mentoring, senior accountants running portfolios and Producer Offset claims, managers owning client profitability and technical standards, and Virtual CFO specialists turning messy production numbers into decisions founders can actually act on. What unites them is a client base that values an advisor who speaks their language and does not flinch at the irregular cash flows and financing structures the industry runs on.

This is North Sydney and hybrid work with real advisory scope, not compliance-only churn, and the client relationships tend to be long and genuinely collaborative. We place people who are strong technical accountants first and are genuinely curious about the creative world, screen, media, music and entertainment. If you have that combination, or screen accounting experience you have struggled to use fully in a generalist firm, these mandates are worth a conversation. As always it is handled discreetly, and we will only ever put you forward where the fit is real and the timing is right for you.

Common questions

What does a creative-industries accountant do?

They work in an accounting firm advising production companies, content creators and creative businesses on structuring, tax and cash flow, including Producer Offset claims. It is a different job from a production accountant, who is embedded on a single film or series and hired on contract for its duration.

Do I need screen industry experience to apply?

Not always. Several of these roles will teach the screen-specific side, including the Producer Offset and production financing rhythms, to a strong technical accountant who is genuinely curious about the creative world. Senior mandates generally do expect sector experience.

What is the Producer Offset?

A refundable tax offset for Australian film and television production, calculated on qualifying Australian production expenditure. Preparing and supporting these claims is a core part of the senior creative-industries roles, and our guide to accounting jobs in entertainment covers how the screen offsets work.
